What is communication studies? The field offers a wide variety of opportunities in human communication. Communication studies deals with a range of topics from talking face-to-face to mass communication such as radio and television as well as social media.

At Potomac State College (PSC), Communications Studies majors will develop critical thinking, reasoning and decision-making skills to empower them to craft and deliver effective messages in their career and personal life.

Amber Butcher, adviser, assists students in securing internships and gaining experience on campus. Students are encouraged to write for the Pasquino, the College newspaper, and produce segments for the radio station, Mountain Streams Radio, located on campus.

The major will prepare students for admission to the BA in Communication Studies program offered by the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences in Morgantown where students can choose one of five areas of emphasis: Health Communication, Integrated Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Social Media and Communication Technology, and Strategic and Organizational Communication. Students who graduate from PSC with a 2.5 GPA will transfer to West Virginia University as a junior.
